Sydnee Sorce, LMHC-LP

STAFF THERAPIST

Sydnee understands what it means to not quite fit. Daughter of Mexican- American and Italian- American parents, she feels intercultural, not entirely belonging to either. As a queer woman, she relates to the struggles of acceptance in a society that can make one feel like an outsider when not fitting neatly in a specific package. Moving at her own pace and in her own unique way has been othering for Sydnee, in a way that she believes many can relate with. All these factors go to say that if you feel that you don’t quite “fit”, you’re not quite “right”, or just want to understand why you feel this way at all, she’s got you.

Sydnee graduated from Adelphi University in May of 2023 and took time following her master’s program to reconnect with herself and those around her. This growth period gave her the time to understand the importance of pace and going through life with intention (despite not always knowing the direction). During this time she discovered the importance of radical self love, acceptance, and understanding how it can look and feel different for everyone, including herself.

She has always been drawn to working with people and enjoys the challenge of bringing others to best understand themselves; be it interpersonally, therapeutically, or simply in learning to accept oneself wholly, and with compassion. Her soft yet direct approach will help bring out your most genuine self. Finding the beauty in the flux between loving oneself as they are and wanting to make changes for the better is what Sydnee seeks in all her encounters.

Her approach is one that is relational, trauma-informed, and clinically based in CBT and psychodynamic theory.  This stance was developed throughout her experience working in a substance abuse facility. She is a lifelong student who has put in the time to educate herself on as many psychological theories and therapies as possible, while insisting on treating you as a friend and colleague rather than simply another diagnosis. She prides herself on this adaptability, and willingness to learn who you are, what you want, and the “why” of it all, at your core.

A Note From Sydnee:

Our world is tumultuous. Our inner monologue can be a silent burden. The past, present and future are intermingled and sometimes impossible to navigate.. Alone.

I will work with you on whatever you believe is holding you back from being your most authentic self. Truly, we can work through most anything so long as we remain honest and open to the vulnerability of being known. Whenever you’re ready, we will figure it out together.

The Human Side

  • Outside of work, Sydnee spends her time seeking small joys like reading horror novels in coffee shops, accumulating and tending to her multitude of plants, trying new restaurants, rock climbing, visiting markets (Italian, Asian, flea, etc), speculating on the goings-on of pigeons, and ideally doing any and all of this with her close network of chosen family and friends.

  • Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes - “Maintenance Phase” is my favorite podcast because it is well-researched, shame-busting, queer-run, informative hilariousness.

  • I’m secretly obsessed with tumbling gymnastics and take classes in my free time. This matters to me because there is not a lot of representation of bigger bodies in this arena.

  • My coffee order vacillates between a black americano and a mocha depending on how well my day is going.
